Sustainable Waste Solutions for Large London Fruit Market
Contact UsProject breakdown
CD Waste partnered with a large London fruit market to streamline waste management processes, reducing transport movements and increasing recycling rates. The comprehensive solution led to significant financial savings and improved environmental impact.
The challenge
The market generated large amounts of wood and fruit waste, requiring frequent waste collections and posing environmental and operational challenges. Asking traders to separate food from packaging also proved difficult due to traditional practices.
The solution
CD Waste introduced a roll compactor for wood waste, reducing collection frequency, and implemented a colour-coded segregation system for fruit waste. Additional recycling initiatives were added, including upgrades to the compactor and recycling of cardboard and plastic crates.
Value delivered
Recycling rates improved to 70%, with over 15 tonnes of fruit waste recycled daily. Transport movements were reduced, lowering CO2 emissions, and the market achieved significant financial savings through fewer waste collections and better waste handling efficiency.
